Introduction to Pottery
A 5-day workshop to learn the basics of working with clay. This course is an introduction to pottery and the methods of making items from clay. You will also be introduced to how glazes work, with the option to glaze and fire your pieces.
- 5 days: 2 sessions a day
- 3-hour sessions/30 hours total
- 3 hours for theory discussions
- Day 1
- Session 1: Introduction to the pinching method
- Session 2: Introduction to the coil building method
- Introduction to wheel throwing
- Day 2
- Session 1: Making articles using the coil building method
- Session 2: Introduction to the slab building method
- Introduction to wheel throwing (contd.)
- Day 3
- Session 1: Making articles using the slab building method
- Session 2: Making articles using both coil & slab building method
- Introduction to wheel throwing (contd.)
- Day 4
- Session 1: Sandeep demonstrates how to make pottery using the wheel
- Session 2: Theory and technical discussion
- Practicing wheel throwing (contd.)
- Day 5
- Session 1: Glazing the articles you have built
- Session 2: Discussion on your results. Q&A session.
- Practicing wheel throwing (contd.)
- Students can glaze and fire up to 4 articles.
